A 33-year old deliveryman, Abdul Jalil Mohamad Yusof, was sentenced on 23 March 2015 to 18 months’ imprisonment for using a penknife to threaten a 41-year old female prostitute from China.
The accused pleaded guilty to eight charges and an additional four charges were taken into consideration for the purpose of sentencing.
On 2 October 2014, Abdul Jalil was driving a lorry at 2 am along Lorong 25 Geylang when he approached the victim.
Communicating with the Chinese-speaking victim through hand gestures and bargaining, he agreed to pay her $80 for her sexual services.
Abdul Jalil drove the victim to an open carpark along Genting Lane where payment was made and they started kissing.
When the victim refused to have sex with Abdul Jalil after finding out that he did not have a condom, they started to argue before Abdul Jalil took out a penknife from the lorry’s dashboard and pointed it at her to intimidate her.
Although the victim tried to leave the lorry, Abdul Jalil refused to let her out and he drove the lorry away from the carpark.
The victim then pulled the steering wheel and gear stick to slow down the lorry and eventually jumped out of the lorry while the vehicle was still moving and she suffered injuries to her head, face, arms and leg from doing so.
The man was arrested at a HDB block in Ubi later in the afternoon on the same day.
The man’s other proceeded charges involved the unauthorised consumption of methamphetamine (Ice) and driving while under a driving disqualification and ban.
He had previous convictions for offences including robbery, drug-related offences, criminal intimidation, snatch theft and driving in contravention of a driving disqualification.
