If you’re involved in a shoplifting offence in Singapore, this may relate to a criminal offence under Section 380 of the Penal Code in Singapore which can be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 7 years and also a fine.
Your chances of asking the authorities to give you a warning or to take a less serious type of action against you are generally better if:
- You’re a first-time offender with no previous convictions for similar offences
- The items involved are of a low value
- You make restitution of the value of the items
- You show that you’re remorseful and you’ll not commit other offences in the future
